Hidden Rung is the Court Piece mode with no caller. The hand starts with no rung (trump) at all, and the first time a player cannot follow the suit that was led, the suit of the card they throw becomes the rung for the rest of the hand, including the trick it lands in.

The trick that sets the rung
Say West leads the king of diamonds. North follows with a diamond, and so does East. You hold no diamonds and throw the four of clubs. Clubs are now the rung, and your four takes the trick from the king. From here to the last card, clubs beat everything else.
The leader can never set it, since a lead is never off-suit. And if everyone can always follow, no rung is set at all: the hand is played with no trump, and the highest card of the suit led takes each trick.
Tricks pile up
Hidden Rung banks tricks the way Double Sir does. They go on a pile in the middle, and the same player has to win two in a row to collect it. There is no second-trick block here, so a player who wins tricks one and two takes both, and the winner of the last trick takes whatever is left. The Trump Ace or Any Ace rule is chosen at setup, as in Double Sir.
No caller, so no kot
With no hakem there is no caller’s advantage to punish, so both sides are scored the same. The first side to seven collected tricks wins the hand and 1 match point, and there is no Court and no Bavan.
Same name, different game at some tables
Pagat.com uses the name Hidden Rung for something else: the caller chooses a trump from their first five cards and lays one card of it face down, and it stays secret until a player who cannot follow suit asks to see it. Our Hidden Rung is closer to the game pagat lists as be-ranga Double Sar, where all thirteen cards are dealt with no trump and the first player who cannot follow suit sets it. Even there one rule differs: in pagat’s be-ranga nobody collects until the trick after the one that set the trump, and our app does not wait.
Playing it well
The card you throw when you first run out of a suit names the rung, so being short in the right place matters. If your long suit is clubs, you want to be the one who runs out of something else first. A leader can also lead a suit everyone still holds, so that nobody gets the chance to set the rung yet.
